We all know that Zhu Zhu pet hamsters are the most popular toy this year for children. I wondered if these pretend hamsters are any good as a training aid the other day. Owning Dogs means that they are often a handful and will react very quickly to any furry creatures that they see.
What if a pretend hamster could be used to get them more used to seeing small animals about the place? I thought that if I could leave the pet hamsters turned off then I could gradually teach the Dogs to leave it alone. I am sure that most Dogs could be trained to do this without too much work. Animals always react differently to moving objects than static ones and they can be trained much easier to leave something alone, even if it looks tempting, if it doesn't move.
Gradually then I could allow the pretend hamster to run around the room while trying to get the Dogs to behave. I am sure that given time then they will be taught not to chase small things. It could be the perfect way to train animals if you are going to introduce a real live hamster or guinea pig in to the household. The animal will then be familiar and hopefully it will be left alone.
This is just an idea mind you. I do not recommend anyone does it, especially if there is a risk of a small child seeing what you are using these most popular of toys for. It really doesn't bear thinking about the consequences if your actions are witnessed by an adoring young child who loves her Zhu Zhu pet hamster. You will not be a popular parent then.
